Steve Douglass is a free-lance photographer/journalist/digital artist, videographer.
His work has appeared between the pages and on the cover of publications such as Popular Science Magazine, The New York Times, Aviation Week & Space Technology Magazine, People Magazine, and Aircraft Illustrated and Popular Communications Magazine where he was a featured monthly columnist.
Over the last 18 years his one–man communications monitoring service (providing breaking news-tips for the local and national news media, (including KFDA TV, KAMR TV, KVII TV, CBS and ABC News) called: “The Reporter’s Edge.” has been instrumental in breaking many national news stories for the national and local news media.
Recently he photographed the tragic demise of the Space Shuttle as it plummeted to earth over Amarillo, Texas.
He is a professional radio monitor and constantly scan all the bands (military, civil, aviation, public safety and government) from his state-of-the-art monitoring post.
His writings on aviation, science communications technology led me to him profiled in a Wired magazine article that resulted in a segment on NBC's Unsolved Mysteries and CBS News. I also helped in the production of seven aviation related TV shows that have aired on the Discovery and Learning Channels.
He has also written and had published hundreds of articles in various magazines and books as well as been a fact-checker and editor of Phil Patton’s “Dreamland.”
As a photographer for the Amarillo News-Globe newspapers, the National Press Photographers Association’s 1988 Pictures of the Year Competition, considered by many to be the “Oscars” of photojournalism, honored his innovative photographic illustrations.
In addition, his 1991 book, (which he wrote, produced and designed) “The Comprehensive Guide To Military Monitoring” published by Universal Publications sold over 15,000 copies.
Currently he is working on two novels as well a book on storm photography.
